This pattern has rarely been seen because the piecing appears to be difficult. However, we have created an easy technique to get perfect points where Y-Seams are needed when adding the corner units. This star is different because it sits on point in the center of the block. Only two shapes are needed to create this versatile pattern. Template A creates the stars and template B is used to connect them.
Many unique variations can be created with this pattern. To make the stars shine, select fabrics with high contrast and a variety of textures. Fabrics should all portray the same mood. I auditioned several fabrics by cutting pieces and placing them on a design wall. Viewing cut pieces at a distance makes it much easier to make the right selections.

Shar recommends using a stiletto instead of your pointer finger to guide fabric in front of the needle when machine piecing. You won’t worry about pieces scooting to one side at the end of the seam. She also uses the Quilter’s Quarter Marker to mark quarter inch seam allowances and match points for both hand and machine piecing.
